Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey Remastered Review

Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey Remastered has a comical and light story line. To be honest, I found it to be a breath of fresh air. It is about a young reaper named Grimm on a journey to make money in order to buy pizza. That’s pretty much it. He gets help on his journey from a female reaper named Rose. Together you collect treasure, defeat ghosts, and of course spell. In this game, your words are weapons. It’s basically like playing Scrabble or Words with Friends. The longer your words are the more damage they do to ghosts. If you have an extensive vocabulary now is the time for you to shine.

The story is rather simple, but it is a lot of fun to play and addicting. It is definitely better than playing Words with Friends. I like the fact that the only way to defeat ghosts blocking your way is to use your words. There is no other way to defeat ghosts in the game. This is where the RPG element of the game comes in. Now each ghost has a health bar and when you spell a word it deals out damage in points. The ghost does deal damage back as well. When you spell a word and he takes damage so do you when he strikes back. As the game progresses you unlock stores for you to buy potions, books, upgrades and other items for Grimm to use on his journey. These items do come in handy because the more you progress the harder the ghosts get as well.

There is also a Jeopardy element thrown into Letter Quest as well. When you reach a treasure chest before you can open it you have to guess what the word is above it. You only get a certain number of guesses in order to open it. Another level of challenge in this game is that letters in the game can change. When you reach a ghost you are given letters to use. Well, the enemies you face in the game can affect the board. They can cause the tiles to crack which means those letters deal out less damage. Enemies can also poison tiles and if you use them they damage you too. That’s what sets this game apart from other puzzle games. It finds fun and unique ways to make the game challenging to players.

If you want more of a challenge after you beat a level you can go back and replay the level in different challenges. There are also quests to complete which help you earn treasure in the game to buy things in the shop. Don’t worry you do not need to use real money in Letter Quest.

When you pass a level you unlock a new place on the map as well. You can also switch letters to if you get stumped, but this comes with a price. You do not get to attack your enemy in exchange for new letters. The controls are very easy you just use your mouse to click on the tiles. There are many aspects about Letter Quest I like, but my favorite is the graphics. I just love the whole cartoony style of the game. Grimm, Rose, and all the other characters have a cute vibe to them.

I was pleasantly surprised by Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey Remastered. I was not expecting it to be so addicting, fun, very challenging, and to have as much content as it does. Letter Quest takes word games to a whole new level. The player is always kept guessing and doesn’t know what to expect in each level. In word games, people get bored because they lack that element of surprise.

I love that you get an RPG, story, and word elements all in one game. The characters are cute yet creepy at the same time. People of all ages can play whether you are an adult or child. Hardcore gamers and casual gamers alike will like Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey Remastered.
