Call of Duty: Black Ops has racked up an astronomical $650 million worth of sales in its first five days on release. To put that into perspective……that’s more than anything……ever.
Trumping Modern Warfare 2’s five day haul by a massive $100 million, I can only assume that Activision has spent the morning swimming in a pool of money ala Scrooge McDuck.
After all the hoopla and unpleasantness concerning Infinity Ward earlier in the year and Treyarch’s previous position as the franchise’s whipping boys, it’s really quite amazing to see Black Ops prove quite as popular as it has. Everyone knew it was going to do serious business, but to trounce Modern Warfare 2’s seemingly unbreakable record, and by such a clear margin, must have come as something of a pleasant surprise for even the most optimistic of folk at Activision and Treyarch.
Expect haters to come out in force…..when they’re not playing Black Ops’ multiplayer that is.
