Despite Nathan Fillion looking, sounding and acting just like Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, not to mention the fact that they share the same first name, the good folk over at Columbia have gone ahead and inexplicably cast Mark Wahlberg as the wise cracking hero instead.
Obviously the fact that David O. Russell is at the helm who has previously directed Wahlberg in I Heart Hukabees, Three Kings and The Fighter has a lot to do with it, but come on…..how is Nathan Fillion not playing Nathan Drake? If ever there was an easy decision to get the faithful on board, casting Nathan Fillion was it.
There is better news in that, according to Wahlberg, both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are being lined up for parts,
“I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
But honestly, being both a huge Uncharted and Nathan Fillion fan, the choice of Wahlberg in the lead is something of a bitter pill to swallow. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Mark Wahlberg, in fact, his previous films with David O. Russell have produced some of the very best work of his career, it’s just that, well, he tends to screw the pooch when given the leading role.
I do hope I’m wrong and that Wahlberg and Russell knock it out of the park – It’s just a shame that this potentially career making role didn’t go to the man that was seemingly made for the role.
