As expected, Avatar Kinect was announced by Microsoft during their CES press conference yesterday. Although details are still very thin on the ground, it looks like it’s going to be similar to Sony’s PlayStation Home with the added ability of Kinect being able to read gamers facial expressions while mingling with the masses online.
I wish I could get excited about this news but I flat out hate PlayStation Home and find it very hard to get excited at the prospect of Microsoft’s own attempt at some kind of virtual gathering point. I’m sure it won’t prove as sterile and mundane as Sony’s effort but…….well, let’s just wait and see.
In fairness, it will be free to Gold subscribers and if nothing else will be worth a look. I just feel that Microsoft’s money and resources could be put to better use.
Still, despite my own negativity, I’m sure many of the 8 million strong Kinect users out there will welcome the news. Are you looking forward to Avatar Kinect?
