Ubisoft’s okay(ish) Call of Juarez series is making a return this year with the added twist of being set in the modern day.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel will take place predominately in modern day Los Angeles and according to the developers at Techland, “will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot”. Sounds, uhhhh, sounds interesting I suppose.
How this is going to be anything more than a modern day shooter with a few folk in cowboy hats thrown in for good measure is beyond me at the moment, but here’s hoping that the modern twist isn’t simply to cash in on the popularity of another modern day shooter which I don’t believe needs to be named.
Either way, Techland’s and Ubisoft’s approach should prove nothing if not interesting.
Although no official release date has been confirmed, Call of Juarez: The Cartel is due on to appear on PC and “next generation consoles” sometime this summer (what is this, 2006?).
