PSP aiming for a younger audience.

Despite the upcoming release of the PlayStation Vita, Sony clearly believe that there is still a market for the much underappreciated PSP.

With a rather snazzy looking matte model unveiled at Gamescon last month and given a very reasonable rrp of just £89, it looks like Sony are aiming the new PSP model at “teens and much younger”.

To keep the price down and to emphasise Sony’s commitment to a younger, gaming exclusive audience, Jim Ryan at SCEE confirmed that the new model will omit wi-fi and stereo sound,

“If we are going to take PSP very young – teens and much younger – they are happy to just play the game. If taking wi-fi out is the price to pay, we’re happy to.”

Whether they’re aiming at a younger audience or not, I still think that the PSP is a great piece of kit and at that price is well worth a look.

For those sitting on the fence, it’s also worth noting that PSP games are coming down in price at a rather rapid rate with some real bargains to be found amongst its surprisingly decent selection of games.
