Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles comes to the fore as the latest downloadable content for Marvel Pinball. This time Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles unleashes an additional four tables to get to grips with. Yes, it is Pinball, but the way Zen Studios approaches it makes the experience a whole new (pin)ball game.
The new tables utilise the Marvel license very well and put a different spin on previous pinball games you may have encountered. The Avengers table tries to tell the story of the blockbuster film Avengers: Assemble through the guise of pinball. The biggest draw for this table is that each hero has a specific ball you can use. For example the Hulk ball offers a points bonus off the bumpers, other special powers include longer ball times and faster multipliers. Each ball has the same colour as the hero it represents and swapping between different heroes is key to doing well on this table.
Fear Itself follows the story of Thor & the other Asgardians. It is a slower, simpler table with a very Norsk feel to it. There’s a unique yet unusual accelerator loop that is placed below the flippers. You may find that this table is the most difficult to score highly on. World War Hulk is a bright, entertaining and fun table where you are required to concentrate on roll overs and ramp combos. Of course, you get the chance to smash a bunch of stuff off which again increases the enjoyment factor. The Infinity Gauntlet is one hell of a pinball experience. Powerful gems on the table change time and space at random intervals. Sometimes your flippers would have been reversed, adding additional obstacles to the table and in some cases the whole table will be flipped upside down. Look out for the large God stone that appears, this is when things turn crazy.
Graphically, all the tables are fantastically designed, you can tell each inch of detail has been carefully implemented. The playfields are very detailed and never fail to impress the eyes. Each character is perfectly represented. The pinballs, in most cases, are easily identified, the only issue may be found on the Hulk table with its very colourful, but very yellow, background. The character voices are on the right side of cheesy whilst the dialogue is acceptable. Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles control mechanism is great, perfectly replicating the pinball experience but also adding an innovative Marvel slant to the proceedings.
In summary, Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles is undoubtedly a fun and involving game be it limited to the physics of pinball. The new tables will ensure owners of Marvel Pinball will garner new experiences and add additional longevity to the series. Sure, it is a game based around pinball, but if you haven’t played it then you should because it’s a very satisfying experience. The Marvel license has been used well in Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles. Time to get your cape on and get to work taking down villains with your enhanced pinball skills!
