FIFA 16 cover stars to be decided by fan votes

FIFA 16 01Following the announcement from EA Sports that, alongside global cover star Lionel Messi, gamers will be able to vote for the regional co-star of FIFA 16 the eligible athletes have now been revealed. The candidates for the United Kingdom cover are Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea) and Jordon Henderson (Liverpool).

Anyone wanting to support their favourite nominee can do so by visiting the UK portal between June 16th and July 5th to register their vote daily, and by sharing their selection on Twitter can log another 10 votes to their player. By linking your Origin ID you can also generate further votes by playing FIFA 15 – simply playing adds half a vote, with every game you win adding another half vote and each goal scored an extra quarter of a vote.

The UK vote is open to everyone, even those outside the UK region, and you are encouraged to vote daily.

It’s also possible to vote for the co-star for the French, Latin American, Mexican and Australian regions at the following links. The Australian vote is noteworthy for the progressive news that the three nominees to choose from are all female footballers.

UK region – Aguero, Kane, Courtois, Henderson

Australia region – Catley, Simon, Gorry

France region – Lacazette, Griezmann, Matuidi, Varane

Mexico region – Munoz, Gimenez, Fabian, Ayala, Herrera, Mier, Orozco, De Buen

Those voting for the UK cover may be surprised at the absence of Arsenal and Manchester United players to choose from. Arsenal in particular had a number of impressive players in the 2014/15 season including Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey while David De Gea performed heroics in goal for Manchester United (Jack Wilshire and Wayne Rooney also had strong seasons but have already appeared together on the cover of FIFA 12).

FIFA 13 featured another Arsenal player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain co-starring with Jo Hart while Gareth Bale graced the cover of FIFA 14 and Eden Hazard was seen most recently on the cover of FIFA 15 – explaining his omission for the upcoming from the voting line-up for the new edition.
