In my July predictions I managed to get a single prediction correct with the well-received Rocket League on PS4. However the other games that joined the IGC roster were not even titles I had shortlisted before (with the exception of rain which I had predicted on a couple of occasions in the past). So a mixed bag overall, but hopefully I’ll be able to improve with my August predictions.
Looking firstly at the PS4 there are three titles due to be released on 4th August which instantly makes them favourites to join the next lineup of free games. First-person shooter Bedlam, strategy defence title The Castle Game and anime-inspired 2D shooter Galak-Z all seemingly fit the bill for PS Plus titles – although as the latter looks to be part of Sony’s PSN PLAY lineup it can probably be disregarded. Elsewhere the multiplayer slasher Zombie Vikings has no confirmed release date so could be an outside bet.
Skipping straight to the Vita there are no obvious choices to nominate. 112 Vita games have averaged 70% or higher on metacritic and over a third of those have already made an appearance on PS Plus while of those that haven’t huge swathes can be removed for being either unavailable digitally, older incarnations of sports franchises, part of obscure RPG series or too new. Of those that remain only a handful seem to fit the likely profiles – namely Tearaway, CastleStorm, Child of Light, Rocketbirds, Freedom Wars, Persona 4, Retro City Rampage and Rayman Legends.
Coming back to the PS3 the only real indications we have this month are two recent big indie sales that rule out a whole host of feasible options. Based on this I would tentatively wager on a higher-profile title in the vein of BEYOND: Two Souls, Enslaved, LEGO Batman, Ni No Kuni or XCOM: Enemy Within. Could we even possibly see Watch Dogs or The Last of Us?
My August 2015 predictions therefore are:
The Castle Game
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Child of Light
Next week we’ll see if I’ve managed to get any right myself. In the meantime please leave your predictions (no need to sign up) in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
