Predicting the August titles for the Instant Game Collection on Sony’s PlayStation service was a tricky task, which is why I’m more than happy with my one correct prediction (CastleStorm). However I’m still looking to improve my returns when the game list is updated on 1st September.
A new feature for the Instant Game Collection is the opportunity for PS4 users to influence the selection by voting from a limited line-up. For September the roster consists of Grow Home, Zombie Vikings and Armello – and based on the current rankings it looks like a foregone conclusion that Grow Home will win the vote.
My usual tactic of checking which new releases correlate with the Instant Game Collection announcement date, while usually reliable, backfired in August. However it’s still worth looking at the upcoming release dates just in case it provides a source of inspiration. Aside from the three ‘Vote to Play’ titles mentioned above there are a number of games due to be released on the first of the month. Mad Max and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain are both unlikely, but Xeodrifter seems to fit the bill for a PlayStation Plus title. Elsewhere Adr1ft and Poncho both have unconfirmed September release dates and so can be considered outside bets.
As usual I eliminate a few of the other front-runners by examining which games have recently been on sale as they can usually (but not always be ruled out). The recent Summer Sale covered a number of high-profile franchises including The Evil Within, The Order: 1886, The Crew, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Shadow of Mordor, Saints Row IV, SteinsGate, South Park: The Stick of Truth and Murdered: Soul Suspect.
Finally I’ve gone with a few titles that I feel are overdue for a PlayStation Plus appearance with Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Tearaway. I’ve also included Grim Fandango Remastered as although it was only released this year the original obviously came out so long ago it’s not exactly a new game.
Grim Fandango Remastered
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Next week we’ll see if I’ve managed to get any right myself. In the meantime please leave your predictions (no need to sign up) in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
