12 awesome European-made games that are cheaper than you thought on PS Store this weekend

With so many of the blockbuster games we play originating in the game dev hotspots of California, Japan and Canada, it’s easy to forget about the wealth of homegrown talent doing incredible work here in Europe.

With that in mind, we thought we’d take a moment to call out some great titles from across the continent – all of which just so happen to be part of this week’s ‘Games Under €20’ sale.

1. Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition

Developed by: Techland, Ostrów Wielkopolski- Poland

The original developer behind Dead Island and Call of Juarez, Techland has great form in the first-person action genre and 2015’s Dying Light built beautifully on that pedigree to deliver a truly nerve-shredding and brutal parkour zombie slasher.

Pick up ‘The Following – Enhanced Edition’ and you’ll get all of this along with a bundle of extras including a huge new area to explore and fully-customisable buggies to go joyriding in.

2. Farming Simulator 15: Complete Edition

Developed by: Giants Software – Zurich, Switzerland

TITLE

Some might be sceptical of the premise, but the continuing success of Giant Software’s Farming Simulator series speaks for itself. The simple satisfaction of building a virtual agricultural empire is surprisingly addictive and, despite the lack of explosions, can pull you in for hours at a time.

The Complete Edition comes bundled with all the original DLC including a huge variety of vehicles and equipment to choose from.

3. Lords of the Fallen: Complete Edition

Developed by: Deck 13 Interactive – Frankfurt, Germany

TITLE

Building on the latest trend for games that thoroughly hand your backside to you, Deck 13 tossed its hat into the ring in 2013 with the suitably brutal Lords of the Fallen – a brooding and grizzly action-RPG with huge weapons, punishing enemies and absolutely colossal boss fights.

If the tough-but-fair model is your kind of shtick, then look no further than the Complete Edition that comes complete (appropriately enough) with extra weapons, quests, DLC and more.

4. Dreamfall Chapters

Developed by: Red Thread Games – Oslo, Norway

The final chapter in the long-running Dreamfall saga, Dreamfall Chapters is the conclusion to Norwegian developer Ragnar Tørnquist’s serialised story of corruption and consciousness spanning multiple parallel realities – a series so beloved that fans helped him raise €1.5m just to find out how it would end.

If you’re not familiar with the series so far, fear not: Dreamfall Chapters includes backstory trailers that will bring you fully up to date.

5. Until Dawn

Developed by: Supermassive Games – Guildford, UK

Taking the humble narrative adventure format and super-charging it with their favourite tropes from Hollywood slasher flicks, Guildford’s Supermassive Games had its first big hit in 2015 with Until Dawn.

A tongue-in-cheek love letter to ’80s and ’90s horror films, it comes with all the hammed-up acting, unlikely sexual misadventure and over-the-top violence you could possibly ask for.

6. Assetto Corsa

Developed by: Kunos Simulazioni – Rome, Italy

TITLE

Based at the ACI Vallelunga racing circuit just outside of Rome, it’d be fair to say that few developers take driving simulation as seriously as Kunos Simulazioni. It’s no surprise then that 2016’s Assetto Corsa – literally translated as ‘Racing Setup’ – aims to deliver as realistic a driving experience as you’re like to find anywhere outside of a racing cockpit.

With a big emphasis on tinkering, customisation and ‘modding’, and well over 90 cars from the best-known manufacturers, this Italian hot rod is a must-have for petrol heads.

7. Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition

Developed by: Larian Studios – Ghent, Belgium

Bringing the classic turned-based strategy of pen-and-paper roleplaying games to the modern console industry is no mean feat, but with the critically-lauded Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition, Belgian-based Larian Studios proved it was more than doable.

With masses of graphical and gameplay refinements, along with fully voice-acted dialogue throughout, the Enhanced Edition delivers a truly excellent experience.

8. Project CARS: Game of the Year Edition

Developed by: Slightly Mad Studios – London, UK

It takes a truly plucky indie developer to go toe-to-toe with the big boys, but that’s exactly what British team Slightly Mad Studios did when it crowdfunded its modern console driving sim Project CARS. Having secured millions in funding from the gaming community it knew they were onto something special and the final results speak for themselves.

With additional cars, tracks, liveries and features, the Game of the Year Edition is truly the best way to experience this crowd-funding success story.

9. Styx: Master of Shadows + Styx: Shards of Darkness

Developed by: Cyanide Studio – Paris, France

While pure stealth games seem somewhat in decline over recent decades, French studio Cyanide is doing its bit to keep the genre alive and well by way of a diminutive, foul-mouthed goblin named Styx.

With a unique fantasy setting, an acerbic wit and the occasional pop-culture reference to put a smile on your face, Styx is a one-of-a-kind. Best of all, you can get both adventures bundled into a single package right now on PS4.

10. Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO – Special Edition

Developed by: Milestone, S.r.l – Milan, Italy

TITLE

Inspired by the incredible career of nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb, last year Italian racing game veteran Milestone S.r.l. put together a signature rally title that celebrated not only the Frenchman’s impressive sporting career, but also the best of modern motorsport.

If you want to get a real feel for a decade at the top, the Special Edition comes bundled with all the original DLC, including all five DLCs and 24 additional events.

11. Rayman Legends

Developed by: Ubisoft Montpellier – Montpellier, France

TITLE

Still one of the most highly-rated platformers of the generation, Rayman Legends stands as one of Ubisoft Montpellier’s highest achievements. From a technical, artistic and design perspective it ticks pretty much every box, and has masses of replayability for those who need to collect everything.

On PS4 the entire game runs seamlessly, without a single loading screen popping up between stages, delivering a sublime moment-to-moment experience.

12. Sniper Elite 3: Ultimate Edition

Developed by: Rebellion – Oxford, UK

Last but not least, we’ve the thoroughly visceral Sniper Elite 3, from UK veteran Rebellion. Not just your average WWII shooter, Sniper Elite 3 transports you to Nazi-over-run North Africa and enjoins you to blow the giblets off various targets in as many creative ways as possible – bloody marvellous, old chap!

Pick up the Ultimate Edition and get nine additional DLC packs and six additional multiplayer maps to keep your trigger finger itching even after the credits have rolled.
