Who would have thought that computer training and instructional programmes in the 1950s would lead the way to table tennis-like Pong and the arcade craze of the 1970s, as well as the introduction of the Magnavox Odyssey – the first home console? Well, 25 consoles later, we now have a billion-dollar industry that doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
The gaming industry is booming on a worldwide scale and the advanced technology of modern day PCs and consoles is now giving people all over the world the opportunity to play games of such calibre that they often find themselves on the borderline of realism.
Things seem only to be moving forwards from here, with the recent advancements in virtual reality (VR) – companies are designing VR games that are giving people the opportunity to enter worlds they could have only dreamed of. As well as that, we have seen the growth of the esports scene and a surge in live-steaming platforms, which have both become a vital party of the gaming industry.
Whether you are from the younger generation of gamers or a veteran – we all have fond memories of gaming and online gaming retailer Fanatical have created an infographic detailing the history of gaming leading up to the modern day.
