Ever since Blizzard Entertainment released Overwatch in 2016, this video game has become a massive success. With over $1 billion in revenues within one year of release and well over 40 million players after two years, it’s hard to deny that Overwatch is a true gaming sensation.
In the past couple of years we have seen Blizzard unveiling plenty of new upgrades for the game in the form of new heroes and all manner of cool cosmetics and loot boxes. But in order for Overwatch to survive in the long-run, it will need to take a look at the bigger picture and retain its valued fan base.
Alongside titles like Counter Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends and Dota 2, Overwatch has become an integral part of the esports scene. It’s impressive work for Overwatch to have made it this far, and it will be interesting to see how the title can survive against such long-running competition.
Blizzard Entertainment have taken the wise step of introducing properly organised esports tournaments like the Overwatch League that follow the format of traditional sporting contests such as the NFL. This season’s Overwatch League has introduced eight new franchises who will compete on a global stage. It’s a bold move from Blizzard and it should ensure that fans have plenty more options when they choose to visit an Overwatch betting site such as .
But for casual players of Overwatch, there are plenty of great new additions to the title that can keep things interesting. This can be seen through the introduction of new heroes like Baptiste who gives you chance to enjoy the burst fire feature or even try out the handy healing grenade. Whilst there were a few teething issues with Baptiste’s abilities to reload, it’s the implementing of new characters like this that help Overwatch to be a very dynamic title.
In addition to this, it looks like there might be new maps on the way for Overwatch fans to enjoy. Just last week in the Overwatch Public Test Region, fans noticed how Numbani’s spawn room got a small change which could mean that there will be a new map to check out soon.
There are plenty of theories that Havana could be a new Overwatch location, but Blizzard seem to be keeping their cards close to their chest. The Paris map was released in the middle of February and it would make sense to feature another real-life city, and as Baptiste has a Caribbean heritage, then including the Cuban city would make perfect sense.
In terms of developments in Overwatch’s gameplay, it’s hard to deny the fact that the GOATS or triple-triple strategy has been the big news of the year. By including three tanks and three healers, it has led many gamers to enjoy a safe way to get a winning result. Some critics have said that this approach often leads to some boring gameplay, but tactical developments like this are key to showing just how much expertise is required to truly enjoy an engrossing title like Overwatch.
But it’s Blizzard’s attention to detail that keeps Overwatch amongst the best video games around at the moment. By making small changes such as increasing Junkrat’s frag launcher impact damage marginally, or even reducing Reaper’s healing a touch, these moves can all have dramatic impacts on the balance of play. As a result, we can expect to see plenty more small but significant developments to Overwatch in the coming months. So that whether you are a pro gamer or a casual fan, Blizzard are working hard to keep things interesting.
