Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Review

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Game Review Screen 3

I really want to say that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is an exceptionally great game and you should definitely buy it as a present for your kid but honestly I just can’t bring myself to say it. The game was originally an iOS App that is called and it should have stayed that way.

The controls in the game are incredibly easy. The goal of the game is to collect the flying food in the air by swiping on the bottom screen with the stylus to slice the food. You only have one minute to slice as many items as you can. Be sure to avoid the marshmallows and clocks, these items will pop up at unpredictable times. They will come up on the screen as red, if you accidentally Slicing these items will result in you ending the game. Random items are tossed across the top screen rapidly. Slashing these items in time will earn you objects for an invention or other unlockable features in the game. As you progress through the levels you unlocking features of the game such as the “Lab” where you can create inventions, view what you’ve collected and change the colour style of the game.

Graphics are definitely well done for this game I’ll give them that. For me it was the best part of the game. The way they designed the characters and interface was clever. They made sure this game was very detailed and colourful which definitely drew my attention. The clever technique of making the effects 3D was a superb idea for the top screen.

On to the negative features of the game, be prepared because there are many! Characters from the movie speak briefly when you’re slicing away which was motivating for me I’m not ashamed to say. After a while hearing the characters repeat the same line was aggravating and gave me a headache. I have no idea why the developers did this but it seems as though you can only use the stylus to navigate throughout the game. For me only having use of stylus was unexciting and I lost interest quickly.

Most 3ds games let you use all of the buttons on the pad, in this case you don’t. I’m guessing this is because of the fact that it was a previous iOS game, but certainly the developers could have thrown in usage of the circle pad. Another let down of the game was that there was barely a storyline. More speech dialogue was needed, even a better story line perhaps? Just something so that I can keep on going back to the game to find out what happens next!

When I was younger I enjoyed playing mobile games such as Snake and Space Invaders. This wasn’t because of how incredibly easy they were or the phenomenal graphics they had, because let’s face it they had neither of these attributes but, because of how interesting these games were, you kept on going back to them because they were addictive. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 does not offer this.

All in all Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 offers colourful and cute looking characters that have their own weird sense of humour. It’s safe to say this game is designed for over the ages of three so the game has to be suitable for the ages playing.

To be quite frank I would more likely play this game on my phone or tablet. It was repetitive with an annoying soundtrack and the goal of the game was pointless but as I stated before it also challenged your reflexes. This game has 0 replay ability I’m sad to say.
