Go WILD with our guide to Slots symbols

If you love playing online Slots, you’ll have noticed the vast number of symbols that spin across the reels – and these are often associated with the theme of game you’ve chosen. Slots have come a long way from the original, but now vastly out-dated machines that adorn corners of pubs and brick-and-mortar casinos. Now for most casino fans, the way to play is online, somewhere like here: https://casino.paddypower.com. If you log in to your favourite online casino, you’ll find so many different games, all with their unique features and bonuses as well as, of course, different symbols. Here’s your official guide to Slots symbols.

Standard Symbols

We’ve already touched upon how Slots games have different symbols depending on their theme. If you’re playing a classic or retro game, such as Fruitinator, expect to see fruit symbols like cherries, lemons and watermelons, alongside gold bells and lucky 7s. An Irish-themed game like Rainbow Riches will feature pots of gold, wishing wells and leprechauns, while an ancient Egyptian game like Egyptian Wilds will have scarab beetles, ankhs and golden pyramids adorning its reels. Lesser value symbols are usually represented in most, if not all games, by the high-card symbols – 10, J, Q, K and A. Combining these will still result in wins, but don’t expect to gain much profit from them – you’re aiming for the higher-value symbols to align.

Wild Symbols

Wilds started out as the Joker from a pack of playing cards, and have withstood the test of time when it comes to Slots. These days, wilds come in the form of many different characters or symbols and there are even variations on the classic wild. The wild in its most common form will substitute symbols – giving you even more opportunities to win. The wild will only ever transform into a base game symbol, so won’t become a scatter, or any other bonus symbol (for example free spins or bonus games).

The most common variations of wild you may come across while playing include expanding wilds, which grow in size to fill the reels; sticky wilds, which stick to the reels and remain in their place after multiple spins; and stacked wilds, which land on top of each other to fill the reels and create even more winning combinations. But there many more varieties too.

Scatter Symbols

Scatter symbols are significantly rarer than wilds, making them harder to land, but it’s exciting when they do. The main advantage of scatters is that they don’t need to be part of a pay-line to come into effect and most games require you land a specific number of them to trigger bonuses – usually three or more. More often than not, scatter symbols lead to free spins, which of course, players love!

Free spin rounds can be highly profitable, depending on how many you receive and how the reels land. With free spin rounds, wins are based upon the amount of your previous wager, but everything you win gets added to your balance. Free spin bonus rounds may also have extra advantages, like adding multipliers which will further boost your winnings. But also, scatter symbols have their own pay-out!

Multiplier Symbols

Multipliers may be a rare bonus, but they’re certainly worth having – as landing them can see your gameplay accelerated and your winnings increased. Multipliers do exactly that – multiply whatever you have won. It could be 2x, 3x or even anything up to 10x. The symbols are usually standard game ones, with an indicator explaining what their value is. But keep an eye out for multiplier wilds – these will impact your game in a big way. Like wilds, these will transform into any other symbols to create even more wins and landing these symbols will multiply the prize of any winning combinations they join.
